President Uhuru Advice to Boda Boda Association That Generates 27 Billion Monthly
On Friday, October 23, President Uhuru Kenyatta presided over the signing of a significant partnership between the Boda Boda Safety Association of Kenya, investment, Capital Market Authority, and oil market.
The president delved profoundly into the complexities of how Boda Boda operators will run the economy if they listened to his advice.
The president said, “Pres. Kenyatta: Boda Boda industry is a sleeping giant that needs to be awakened, which is why the Boda Boda investment scheme is a great idea. Every individual should take pride in paying the price for what they want. If you do not pay the price, someone will pay to misuse you.”
In his speech, he questioned why Boda Boda riders live in poverty, yet they collect over Ksh. 27 billion every single month.
“Every year, in totality, Boda Boda industry makes Ksh 357 billion Boda Boda association if together, would make more than what the Government gives to the 47 counties. If you collect almost Ksh1 billion every day, why does every Boda Boda rider cry of poverty?”
The president emphasized that “The Boda Boda sector supports, directly or indirectly, 5.2 million Kenyans which accounts for 10% of the population. This means that one in every ten Kenyans makes his livelihood because of the business that you do.”
President Uhuru Kenyatta also advised the workers to pay themselves first, then fulfill other financial obligations they might have to their families. He appealed to the Boba Boda Association to remain determined so they can see the success of the schema, whose primary intention is to establish a better future.
He advised the Boda Boda workers to leverage on the big numbers they have with the association. He said, “My advice is to tell you to leverage your numbers.. look at things, not in an individual aspect, but a collective point of view. You must make unpopular decisions, hence the reason I came with a lean team. But always think of yourselves first and be careful not to be swindled based on political grounds.”
At the end of his speech, President Uhuru Kenyatta urged the Boda Boda Association members to create time and read the Building Bridges Initiative report.
